Bored of walking around the same park you visited throughout lockdown with your lover? Let me change that for you. Though cheaper date ideas can often seem difficult to plan, I’m sure that anyone who hasn’t won the lottery yet can agree that unfortunately we don’t all have an infinite amount of cash to spend at flashy bars or on luxurious meals out. However, this should not stop your imagination when it comes to devising some unforgettably fantastic date suggestions – and they don’t have to cost the earth too! Here are six budget friendly date ideas that will end your spending anxiety…
We All Scream for Ice Cream!
The perfect seaside date for you and your other half awaits you! Blessed with a country full of gorgeous beaches, there is no better way to spend an afternoon (with someone you’ve perhaps met on a Devon dating site!) whilst also achieving a budget friendly and enjoyable experience from your doorstep. Who doesn’t love the taste of silky and irresistibly delicious ice cream? Whether you are a lover of mouth-watering mint choc-chip, the classic vanilla, or even a sucker for strawberry, visits to the seaside are never complete without an ice cream cone. Treat your lover to a stroll on the beach front and a Mr Whippy as the weather gets warmer; it might only cost a couple of quid, but it is certainly better for the soul and your bank account!
Blanket Forts Aren’t Just for Kids…
Whether you’re dating in Yorkshire like me or dabbling in a spot of Devon dating, sometimes a night in trumps a night out. Release your inner child and spend the afternoon building the best blanket fort possible in your living room; watching Netflix underneath a canopy of bed sheets and blankets is the only way to spend a rainy day with your lover. Cuddle up with your blankets and gather a plethora of cushions to create the ultimate den to watch movies or play games in – who doesn’t love a game of Animal Crossing during a lazy afternoon? Add some fairy lights, a bowl of sweet snacks, and a laptop or TV and you have the perfect ingredients for any blanket fort to spend a night with your partner inside.
Night at the Museum? More like Day at the Museum
You can never go wrong with a free museum, and luckily for myself there are a surplus of museums located around Hull to explore. If you and your partner are into history, abstract art, or music, then a visit to a local free museum might just be answer to your date idea queries. Discovering your city’s heritage through models and brochures or getting lost in a spectrum of incredible art, can often be an insightful and worthwhile experience for you and your lover – you might even learn something new!
DIY Spa Night
There is nothing more romantic than a bubble bath with your partner, and instead of spending more money than necessary on a day at a luxurious spa somewhere in the countryside, you can recreate the perfect pamper experience yourself from your own home. After all, there is nothing wrong with a bit of DIY! Gather those bath salts, body scrubs, and body butters, and treat yourself and your partner to a relaxing night in at your homemade spa. You could even prepare a cheese board and some wine to spice up the night’s events even more – you’ve earned it!
Bowling Alley Bliss
Are you stuck for budget friendly double date ideas again? Trust me, I know the feeling. I would constantly be feeling the weight of my friends asking me about the double date plans I had in mind… until finally I devised a brilliant suggestion: ten pin bowling. Everybody loves a friendly competitive game of bowling at their local arcade, and why wouldn’t you? It is a cheap and cheerful option, packed with fun and laughs (though I’m quite a sore loser when it comes down to it). This can be enjoyed as a group of couples or even just with you and your partner in crime, nevertheless I highly recommend you try it!
Mary Berry Would Be Proud!
I might never have the guts to showcase my baking skills on The Great British Bake Off, but believe me when I say that spending a day baking is my idea of paradise – if you add your lover to the experience, the result is even more exciting and enjoyable. Did you know that baking is also a type of therapy? Whether you decide to bake banana bread, brownies or even a Victoria sponge, I can promise that this date idea will not disappoint!
