Three super simple ways to get more matches on dating apps

Three super simple ways to get more matches on dating apps

We live in a modern world, and with a year of lockdowns and restrictions under our belts, online dating has never been so rife. Whether it’s been a serious hunt for a life partner or purely down to boredom, more and more people have found themselves heading to the all store to download dating apps or digging out their laptops and signing up to free dating websites.

Who can blame them, eh?

And while using these dating apps may be super simple and straightforward most of the time, it can be easy to shoot yourself in the foot by not making the most of your profile, and you might find yourself wondering why you’re not having as much success as your other friends in the midst of the match dating world are. So, whether you’re on a bigtime app like Tinder or staying local by Cornwall dating, here three little tips to help get those matches rolling in…

Pictures speak a thousand words

I’m not stranger to dating apps, and too many times I have stumbled across profiles with just one photograph on there. It reeks of catfish, or someone who downloaded the app on a whim and can’t quite be arsed really. Most apps will allow you to upload 5 or 6 photos – so use them! Drop your best selfie on there, get some travel pics added, display pics of you having fun with friends, and show off that personality through the medium of photos! Oh, and make sure they’re good quality… no one wants to date a pixelated person.

Bulk out that bio

I know, I know; writing about yourself can feel pretty cringe, and can actually be quite difficult. But how is someone meant to know what an absolute hoot you are if you don’t give them something to work with?! Bulk out your bio with little things about you that could prompt intrigue and a conversation – your favourite bands, the hobbies you love, your favourite snacks – anything goes, just make sure there’s something. Plus, having a bio prevents you from looking like the kinda person who can barely make an effort to write even just a couple of lines about themselves. Show off that stellar personality, guys!

Stop being so picky!

When I was first thrust into the big wide world of online dating, I found myself getting frustrated that my matches were few and far between. It wasn’t until my brother pointed out that I was being FAR too picky and saying no to everyone that I realised the problem was me – how can I expect to get matches when I’m giving everybody a big fat no? Try to be a little more open-minded when trawling through profiles. If you see even a little something that catches your eye, or you think there could be potential but aren’t necessarily 100% sure, still give them that right swipe or that green tick or whatever it is your chosen dating app uses to indicate “it’s a yes from me”. Just because you’ve matched, doesn’t mean you’re tied to talking to them, so be more lenient with you give the green light, and at least explore conversation with them. I can say from experience, some will take you by surprise when you give them a chance!

There you have it. Three very simply tips to improve your chances of a match. What are your match-making tips?
