This post has been sponsored but all words are my own!
As the life of lockdowns and staying home is (hopefully!) drawing to a close, virtual dating has become the new norm. Whether it’s talking late into the night over FaceTime, or indulging in a dinner for two through Zoom, getting to know each other on a romantic level has never been quite so virtual.
But, like all things in life, preparation is the key to success. And that’s why I’m here to offer a few little tips to help you with your quest of finding digital courtship…
Be open to that first virtual date
First thing’s first – to have a successful virtual date, you’ve gotta be open to the idea of it, right? Whether you’ve been chatting to someone for a matter of weeks or simply a few days, don’t be afraid to dive into the world of virtual dates, even if you’re not entirely sure someone is your cup of tea. Sure, you might start your dating journey looking for something in particular – who knows, maybe a swingers site, or perhaps you’re looking to find a bond through disabled singles dating and amputee dating – but don’t write someone off because you’re not 100% on them… a virtual date might reveal a different side to them that you love.
Have some conversation starters at the ready
Hopefully once your virtual date gets started, you’ll find the conversation flows effortlessly and seamlessly without much thought needed, but we all know this isn’t always the case. So if the worst is to happen and you find yourself stumbling across some tumbleweed moments, make sure to have a few little conversation starters at the ready. Perhaps something you’ve stumbled across on a walk that week, or a recent YouTube video that really sparked your interest. Either way, a bit of small talk trumps an awkward silence!
Curate your dating space
To give your virtual date a little insight into who you are, make sure to curate that space that will be acting as your video call backdrop. Perhaps have a musical instrument peeking out from behind your sofa, set up in front of your endless bookshelves, or make sure to have your nerdy figurine collection in sight. And maybe make sure to hide the big wash pile or the stack of pots waiting to be cleaned… they don’t need that insight just yet. 😉
Do a quick camera test
The final key step in preparing for your virtual date is to do a quick camera check before going live. Switch on the camera you’ll be using, whether it’s on your phone or your laptop, and take it all in: observe the amazing backdrop you’ve created, double check the lighting is doing a great job in highlighting your features, and admire just how flippin’ fierce your hair, makeup and outfit looks. Now, go get ’em!
