My Newcastle New Year

If you’ve followed me on social media around New Year time, you will know I am a self-confessed New Years Scrooge. My boyfriends Dad, however, lives in Scotland (where they are big on the whole New Year/Hogmanay thing!) and invited us to stay with him over New Year, so I decided I should work up the courage to celebrate it this year. Unfortunately, the Scotland plans had to be cancelled last minute. But, rather than let our holiday days off work go to waste, my boyfriend and I booked a last minute Premier Inn in Newcastle for four days of…

Reviewing Lipcote – The Original Lipstick Sealer

If you follow me on Twitter, you are sure to know I love to enter a good giveaway. Lipcote were running a Christmas Countdown giveaway, offering their Twitter followers a daily chance of winning a lipstick and their Lipcote through December. I am very pleased to say I was chosen as a lucky winner, and since I wear lipstick pretty much on a daily basis, I couldn’t wait to try it out. For those of you who don’t know, Lipcote is an Award winning lipstick sealant which claims to keep your lips from fading or smudging. It is simply applied…

My Wonderful Christmas Prezzies

Image credit \ edited I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and Boxing Day! I had a wonderful day with my family. An amazingly scrumptious (and very filling!) Christmas dinner, a chilled out night with my boyfriend and I was spoilt rotten by Santa Claus. And Boxing Day was of course a day of laziness and left over Christmas food, which is a perfect combination if you ask me. Now it’s all done and dusted, I want to give you all a little look at some of my presents. Chocolate pile. I’m pretty sure every single one of you…

6 Reasons Why Frozen is Awesome

Image credit \ edited Disney’s Frozen is definitely a movie that caused a storm for both children and adults across the nation. It’s a family favourite, and working in a kids play area I have yet to come across a child who doesn’t know every single word to ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?’! Today is Christmas Eve and both my mum and dad were working late, and so to keep me happy, they left some Frozen cupcakes on the kitchen counter for me. Of course, I could not eat frozen cupcakes without sticking the film…

Book Review: A Clash of Kings – George R.R. Martin

★★★★☆ I have just finished the second installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire, and it’s left me wanting to read the next one straight away (though it will have to wait until I’m back from Ibiza!!). The character development in this book is really incredible. I grew to dislike those I didn’t have much of an opinion of, began to like those I wasn’t too keen on, and fell completely in love with the characters I was already fond of. Tyrion: I loved Tyrion in the first book, and I love him even more in the second.…

Book Review: The Bailey Game – Celia Rees

★★★★★ The Bailey Game explores the terrifying effects of childhood bullying through the eyes of a child who witnesses it happen. We see the story unfold from Alex’s point of view. She’s seen the extremes bullying drove a previous school student, Michael Bailey, to, and when she watches a new girl Lauren experience the same nasty taunts, she decides to step in this time. She can’t deal with the guilt of what happened to Michael Bailey all over again… “What was it about him that had made them hate him so much? Had he really been that different from other…

Book Review: Dead Hungry – Louis Arata

★★★★☆ I was a very lucky girl (again!) and won this book in a GoodReads First Reads giveaway. 🙂 Be warned: I plan on using some slightly gruesome gifs in this review! Dead Hungry is a gruesome, carnivorous, action packed story. Civilization is essentially falling apart as waves of people are developing a strong appetite for human flesh, whether it comes from morgues, graves or simply the injured. We follow a collection of students and learn how they individually cope with family, friends and loved ones either acquiring a taste for flesh and becoming what are known as Ghouls, or…

Book Review: The Maze Runner – James Dashner

★★★★☆ “You ready or not?” Thomas looked at Minho, matched his suddenly hard gaze. “I’m ready.” “Then let’s go runnin’!” The Maze Runner centres on the story of Thomas, who finds himself in an unnerving place called the Glade with no idea who he is, where he’s come from or why he’s been sent there. He finds himself amongst a group of boys who have all started in the same situation – they’ve been flung into an enclosed and daunting scenario with no recollection of their lives outside this world. For the past two years these Gladers have spent their…

Book Review: Angelfall – Susan Ee

★★★★★ I was very lucky (and I do mean very lucky) to win this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. “I never thought about it before, but I’m proud to be human. We’re ever so flawed. We’re frail, confused, violent, and we struggle with so many issues. But all in all, I’m proud to be a Daughter of Man.” Before I even start with a brief overview of what the book is about, how it made me feel, the characters I liked, etc etc, I just need to say how amazing this book is. I mean, seriously,…
