A home isn’t a home without a kitchen. You walk in there and start your day with a first whiff of that morning coffee, and it’s the space that homes all of your delicious foods. Perhaps it’s the space where you gather with friends over a glass of wine, or get creative baking with the family. But when you’ve been living with the same kitchen for years, it’s easy to become bored and start to feel uninspired by your kitchen space.
If that sounds familiar, then it’s time to take out some time to fall back in love with your kitchen. And here are five simple steps you can take to get started…
Reorganise those nightmare cupboards
I think it’s safe to say we all get a little too comfortable in our kitchen and let our cupboard spaces become a little crazy and disorganised. We all have that one cupboard that drives us crazy, fills us with dread when we need to venture in there, and opening it results in a clatter of dishes or lengthy hunt for the utensil you need, right? This is your sign to sort it out! Take it one space at a time and sort, sort, sort. You can even add some upbeat music for that extra burst of motivation.
Make sure the lighting is just right
Having dim, dreary lighting is a sure-fire way too make your kitchen feel lacklustre and drab. Consider introducing some lighting that will make you (and your kitchen!) feel energised and inspired. If you’ve got a big budget, perhaps invest in some replacement windows to soak your culinary space in natural light throughout the day. For an evening, perhaps install LED strips beneath your cabinets to illuminate your counters, or treat yourself to a lamp that provides warm cosy lighting. Whatever sets the mood and makes you feel content. Candles always work a treat for that extra warm glow, too!
Introduce some colour with plants and flowers
A splash of colour can go a long way in providing some extra inspiration, and what better way to introduce bright colours than with a bunch of fresh flowers and some beautiful botanical greenery? As if these aesthetics isn’t quite enough, plants and flowers have the added benefit of inducing calmness and relaxation, and they’re accompanied by a beautiful scent too.
Channel your inner chef and get cooking
Spending some time in your kitchen cooking a dish that smells great, looks divine and (hopefully!) tastes utterly amazing might just be enough to remind you why the kitchen is such a special part of the home. If cooking really doesn’t float your boat, make things a bit more fun by inviting a friend or love one to get involved and help out with it… An evening of good company, amazing smells, and a delectable dish at the end of it – you can’t go wrong!
Simply embrace your kitchen for what it is
Falling back in love with your kitchen may be as simple as stepping back and taking it all in. Perhaps you’ve started taking it for granted, and not really thinking about the joys it holds; a fridge full of hearty food to enjoy each day, appliances that provide with that glorious first coffee to kickstart your morning, and kitchen counters than have seen spills of the great meals you’ve shared with friends. Bonus points for photos, fridge magnets and memories scattered around too!
